The Hours - the title alludes to a work by Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges - offers a first representative selection of works from the Daros-Latinamerica Collection, the most extensive collection of contemporary Latin American art in Europe. The collection is weighted toward the art of the past twenty years and comprises works in a wide range of media, from installations and objects to videos, paintings, drawings, artists` books and performances. Taken together, the positions presented in this volume, each of which is characterized by striking formal and substantive rigor, offer a complex picture of this vast cultural region composed of numerous individual faces, identities, and interests. Thus the book is a kind of mosaic that provides fascinating insights into the still largely unexplored Latin American art scene. Short, succinct texts on the work of the individual featured artists guide the reader on this journey of discovery.

The publication is a comprehensive account of the works by the Argentinian artist that concern light and movement. A text by Sebastián López on Julio Le Parc and the period during which his light works were produced and an interview with the artist by Hans-Michael Herzog, the director and curator of the Daros-Latinamerica collection, provide insights into the artist´s personal world.

The exhibition catalogue La Mirada - Looking at Photography in Latin America Today presents a selection of the contemporary artistic output in Latin America in what regards the medium of photography. The rich spectrum of works by these artist photographers, dating from the past two decades, ranges from straight photography to the staged image. Representing countries from Chile to Mexico and Cuba, these photographers form part of the Daros-Latinamerica collection.

The extensive (visual) presentation of each of the artists is complemented with an essay by David Levi Strauss. In a companion volume, extensive conversations with the artists, conducted by Hans-Michael Herzog, the director of the Daros-Latinamerica collection and curator of the exhibition, give insight into the mental and artistic worlds of the photographers, whose profound reflections offer decisive keys to an understanding of the current cultural scene in Latin America.
